The wind
Wind is the kinetic energy of moving air, and it pushes against the blades.
We design and build a small wind turbine for the International Small Wind Turbine Contest (ISWTC).
The turbine is designed according to the competition rules: a limited rotor swept area, safe operation and performance tests in a wind tunnel.
The team covers blade design and aerodynamics, mechanical construction and sustainability, and the electrical system.
From wind to electricity in four steps.
Wind is the kinetic energy of moving air, and it pushes against the blades.
The shape of the blades creates a force that turns the rotor.
The rotation is transferred to the generator, which converts it into electrical energy.
Power electronics and control adapt the energy so that it can be used.
Airrion starts as a student initiative of the University of Patras.
Aerodynamic and mechanical study of the wind turbine.
Manufacturing and assembly of the prototype.
Operational tests and performance measurements.
